Why You Should Stop Blaming and Start Writing

So much of what we know today has been passed forward to us from the past in books. There’s something magical about getting into a good book, whether it’s a nonfiction or a novel, books have the power to take you places and give you knowledge.

On the counter side of that, being an author is equally as rewarding. There is something powerful in noting down your feelings, expressing, sharing your knowledge and possibly even leaving a legacy.

Too many people have their dreams squashed, they listen to the wrong people who hold them back. What is so important to understand is that life is like a blank page, there is total freedom to write your own destiny and follow your own path. No matter where you are, who you are, what political regime you are governed by, or what culture you were born into, nothing can oppress your mind and your internal creativity and mental freedom.

When I was younger, being dyslexic, I never really connected with reading; it felt like something one had to do as part of schooling and that seemed like a chore. But since leaving school all so many years ago now, I’ve found a reversal, through seeking knowledge and mental companionship, books have led and guided me, often words have been my comfort.

There is a famous saying by Jim Rohn that goes, “Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune.” I really think that is true. The simple fact that most major accomplishments, discoveries, historical events have been documented in writing means we like no time before have a wealth of material to truly ‘stand on the shoulders of giants’.

I often hear too many people in my generation blame the world and today for their misfortune or lack of financial fortune, suggesting the past was more conducive to making serious money. But never before have we had so much knowledge and it's all just out there in libraries, in pages, on shelves. Where there is downturn and economic challenge there are also answers and solutions and through education, and more so through the knowledge that’s out there, we can carve out a better future for ourselves and our children.

So, whoever you are, wherever you are, read, read, read. Turn off the Netflix, pause the YouTube, stop browsing TikTok, stop making excuses and saying you don’t have time, clearly you do, so read and enlighten yourself. You are the author of your own life, maybe one day they will write about you, but let no one write your story for you, define your life and leave your legacy.

Writing my book Think it. Pitch it. Sell it. was an amazing project; to put words to paper and put practical sales tips in, it felt good to have something I can give to my team. It's been amazing hearing the feedback from people all over the world who have read it and shared their experience. I welcome you to read it and hope it may inspire you, too.

Start using one of the biggest secrets out there, a route to success that’s in front of most people's noses but they don’t realise: books, knowledge.

Stop blaming, start writing and reading.
